Tell UC to Respect Researcher Career Advancement
Academic Researchers make significant academic contributions to the University of California. Promoting career stability is beneficial to both the University and its workers. But UC policies on Academic Researcher career advancement lack equity and fairness — this adversely affects workers’ well-being, lowers morale, and ultimately hurts the University’s ability to retain highly skilled workers who drive research and bring in essential grant funding.
We, the undersigned Academic Researchers, call on the University of California to ensure an equitable and transparent career advancement process for Academic Researchers including:
- Initial job title and step placement that accurately reflects prior research experience
- No pay cuts upon advancement from Postdoctoral Scholar or other UC positions
- Bridge funding programs accessible to Academic Researchers at each campus
We look forward to the University’s cooperation in working toward making Academic Researcher careers more sustainable, which will allow both ARs and UC to thrive.
Signed,
