All Graduate Student Workers (teaching assistants, research assistants, assistant lecturers, and some fellows) at the University of Southern California must become union member and pay dues, or decline membership and pay agency fees. Currently, membership dues are 1.44% of gross pay with a $10 initiation fee. For those who decline membership, agency fees are 1.18% of gross pay, as non-members still receive the benefits of your union contract.

However, membership is how workers build power to enforce that contract and make even greater wins. Only members can participate in union meetings, vote on priorities, and run for elected office. Members shape the direction of your union!

If you work in a STEM department and have an internal USC fellowship, choose "STEM Fellow (Internal)." If you have an external STEM fellowship (e.g. NSF GRFP, DOE NDSEG), choose "STEM Fellow (External)." AUTHORIZATION FOR DEDUCTION OF MEMBERSHIP DUES

I hereby authorize and direct the University of Southern California (USC) to deduct from my earnings and to transmit to the UAW and its designated Local Union, dues and initiation fee in the amount established in accordance with the UAW constitution and Local Union bylaws (currently 1.44% of gross pay). The UAW may notify USC of this authorization. This authorization is voluntary on my part and shall remain in effect while I am employed by USC unless and until I revoke it by notifying the Union of my decision to revoke. I authorize and direct you to deduct such amounts from my pay and to remit same to the Union at such times and in such manner as may be agreed upon between you and the Union at any time while this authorization is in effect.

This authorization is made pursuant to the provisions of Section 302(c) of the Labor Management Relations Act of 1947 and otherwise.

Contributions or gifts to the UAW are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.

Solidarity Dues and Pre-Authorization of Automated Payroll Deductions

Even if you're not currently working in one of the represented job titles (TA, RA, AL, STEM Internal Fellow), you are encouraged to pay Solidarity Dues to make your union stronger. Separately, you can pre-authorize Automated Deductions so if you change jobs to a represented title, you won't have to worry about the extra paperwork at that time in order to remain a member in good standing.
