This is a critical moment for public research and education, and it will take all 36,000 Academic Student Employees (ASEs) working together to defend our university and our rights. In every department, lab, cohort, building, and teaching team, higher ed workers are coming together to build a more powerful union, defend each other from funding instability, and help reform public education and research. Winning these fights will take participation from every ASE, and that’s why union members across the UC system are joining the Collective Action Team (CAT) to make sure our coworkers stay informed and ready to defend against attacks on our university and our rights.
Members of the Contract Action Team are committing to:
- Publicly participate: attend union meetings and collective actions and be a visible union supporter.
- Inform & mobilize coworkers: keep coworkers updated about attacks on research funding and higher ed workers’ rights and take action to respond
- Build union membership: make sure coworkers in your department, building, and floor are signed up as members and your union has the power to defend workers’ rights at UC
